Description Obituary: Carlsen, Thor
Thor Carlson, 89, Schroeder, died Monday, November 4, 1991 in Cook County North Shore Hospital, Grand Marais. He was born in Norway and moved to the North Shore in 1923. He was employed as a commercial fisherman for most of his life and during the construction of Reserve Mining Company worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge #322 in Grand Marais in Grand Marais. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tillie in 1942; and a step-daughter, Bernice Mickelson in 1990. Thor is survived by his wife, Alma of Grand Marais; two sons, Carl of Rice and Kermit of Schroeder; two step-sons, Allan Eliasen of California and Norman Eliasen of Texas; two step daughters, Emily Fellows of Washington and Doris Drake of Two Harbors; two sisters, Bertine Carlsen of Stavanger, Norway and Anne Pedersen of Minneapolis; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday in Zoar Lutheran Church, Tofte. Private services will be held followed by burial at Schroeder Cemetery. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.
